Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Mohamed Abdel Aati met Tuesda with Director General of the Arab Centre for the Studies of Arid Zones and Drylands Nasr Edin Obaid and his accompanying delegation.
They discussed means to boost cooperation between both sides in the field of water resources and irrigation in addition to ACSAD’ participation in the activities of 5th Cairo Water Week and the water activities on the sidelines of COP 27 in Sharm El Sheikh in November. Abdel Aati asserted the importance of intensifying national efforts in all the Arab countries in the field of adaptation and climate change in addition to taking the necessary measures to reduce emissions with the aim of curbing climate changes. The Arab region faces several challenges in the field of water due to scarcity of water resources and the negative impact of climate change on them, he said, pointing out the Arab countries are keen on achieving the goals of sustainable development 2030 especially the 6th goal which is related to water. This prompts cooperation with different Arab countries in the field of developing water resources and upgrading irrigation systems and exchanging expertise and scientific potentials between the Arab countries to achieve increase flexibility of water systems in these countries, he added. The meeting reviewed a draft cooperation agreement proposed between the Ministry of Irrigation and ASCAD which aims at promoting cooperation between both sides via organizing scientific meetings, seminars and training courses in the field of managing integrated water resources. The meeting also tackled the preparations for holding the conference of ministers of water, agriculture and environment on the sidelines of 5th Cairo Water Week and holding a meeting on water and food security on the sidelines of COP 27. |
