Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said it is time to put climate adaptation programs into effect and provide them with the necessary funding, particularly in developing countries.
The premier made his remarks on Tuesday at a meeting with Mafalda Duarte, CEO of the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) in Cairo, in the presence of International Cooperation Minister Rania el Mashat and Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad, among others. Madbouly said the government aims to strengthen cooperation with CIF in the coming period within the framework of Egypt’s National Nexus of Water, Food, and Energy (NWFE) programme, in addition to mobilizing soft funding for green development projects in the sectors of food, water and energy under Egypt’s National Strategy for Climate Change 2050. The NWFE is a national scheme meant to implement the nationally determined contributions (NDCs), a document Egypt recently submitted detailing its commitments to emission targets by 2030. In July, Egypt launched the NWFE programme within the framework of its National Climate Change Strategy 2050, with a view to attracting foreign investments to Egypt’s green transformation plan. For her part, Duarte lauded the urban progress and development in Egypt, reviewing projects funded by the CIF in the country. The CIF is keen to increase cooperation with Egypt in the coming period to accomplish ambitious projects adopted by the Egyptian government. |
