Egypt has pressed for an effective and a constructive role by the Group of Twenty (G20) in light of the “very complicated” global economic conditions.
Ragi el Etreby, the representative of the Egyptian president to the G20, said Cairo intends to closely cooperate with the Indian presidency of the Group concerning files of mutual priority, particularly to enhance global food security and support international financing institutions to better face successive crises. He was speaking during the first meeting of representatives of heads of state and government in the Indian city of Udaipur on December 5-6. The representatives gathered to outline a roadmap for G20 meetings during the Indian presidency of the Group. India had invited Egypt to attend the G20 meetings and summit that would be held during its presidency of the Group. The Egyptian Foreign Ministry, in a statement Sunday, stated that reforming the World Trade Organization (WTO) is yet another issue of mutual priority. Other files of mutual priority include, implementing the sustainable development goals, establishing a green hydrogen research center, outlining recommendations for a just energy transition, and reaching a framework for the integration of developing economies into global value chains, read the statement. Egypt made it clear it is willing to work with the G20 to also activate the outcome of the Sharm el Sheikh international climate summit (COP27), the statement added. |
