The Consumer Price Index (CPI), a measure of inflation, edged up 4.23 percent in 2022, reaching 106.79 points against 102.46 in 2021.
According to a monthly report issued by the Department of Statistics (DoS), the biggest drivers of the increase were fuels and lighting, transportation, rents, culture and entertainment, and vegetables and pulses, which each contributed 25.61pct, 5.56pct, 2.61pct, 9.58pct, and 4.26pct, respectively. Last December, inflation increased by 4.36 to 108.05 points compared to 103.54 points recorded in the same month of 2021, the figures showed. Fuels and lighting contributed 35.96 percent to the monthly increase, followed by culture and entertainment with 10.40pct, healthcare with 6.45pct, rent with 5.17pct, and transportation with 3.77pct. |
