Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli made an inspection tour of a new factory affiliated to Alexandria Confectionery & Chocolate Co. (Corona) in the Industrial Park of Giza's 6th of October City.
During the premier's tour, made as part of a government plan to stimulate foreign investments across all sectors, especially the industrial sector, Madbouli urged the factory officials to continue their efforts for mechanizing all production phases to ensure consistent product quality and safety. He also applauded them for providing necessary training opportunities to increase the efficiency of workers at the factory, which employs about 1,500 workers. He said the new factory is a successful example demonstrating the private sector's role in supporting the national economy, affirming the State's commitment to creating an investment-friendly environment. Minister of Trade and Industry Ahmed Samir, Giza Governor Ahmed Rashed, and Executive Director of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Hossam Heiba accompanied the premier during his tour, along with the new factory chairman of the board. Founded in 1919 as Egypt's first chocolate manufacturer by Greek businessman and chocolatier Tommy Christo in Ismailia, the factory moved to Alexandria in the 1930s, changing its name from Royal Chocolate Factory to Alexandria Factory for Sweets and Chocolate (Corona). In 1963, Corona was nationalized. As part of the nationalization decree, Nadler Confectionery, Corona & Al-Hawamdiya Factory was merged under the name of Alexandria Chocolate and Confectionery Co. (Corona). In the context of economic reformation and privatization, Corona Company was sold to Sami Saad Group in 2000 and ever since then it is managed and owned by Sami Saad Holding Group. |
