Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Tuesday 21/2/2023 chaired a meeting to follow up on a project to manufacture an Egyptian electric vehicle (EV).
The meeting was attended by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) Mahmoud Saqr, Dean of the Applied Research Department at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) Prof. Mohamed El Ghamry and Head of the Automotive Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering of Ain Shams University Prof. Mohamed Abdel Aziz. During the meeting, Ghamry reviewed the components of the first Egyptian EV, saying this project will have high returns and provide direct and indirect jobs in feeding industries, as well as save hard currency. Dean of the applied research department at the AASTMT said the first electric car with 60% of local components, will be made within six months, adding the vehicle's local components will be raised to 90% in 24 months from the start of production, through a research project funded by the ASRT. Ghamry revealed that a complex for manufacturing electric vehicles would be erected on an area of 50,000 square meters, while arrangements are being made to deepen the vehicle's local components in terms of mechanical design, motors, and electronic circuits to reach 100%. The AASTMT representative called for clearing all components of the Egyptian electric car from customs,like the custom exemption enjoyed by imported and manufactured electric cars abroad, with offering an incentive of EGP 50,000 to the buyer of this locally-made EV. Following the meeting, the prime minister inspected prototypes of the produced electric cars, as he called for raising the local components’ percentage and enhancing their quality. |
