Egyptian Minister of Finance Mohamed Maait said the Egyptian government was keen on enhancing cooperation with the Greek side in the various fields.
This came during Maait's signing a memorandum of understanding with his Greek counterpart Christos Staikouras to launch a periodical dialogue on exchange of viewpoints between the two countries on the financial issues and policies as well as mechanisms to development their technical cooperation. During their meeting in Athens, Maait said there are promising projects of power linkage between the two countries, noting that Greece could be a gate for exporting green energy from Egypt to Europe especially at the time when Cairo is adopting a policy of expansion in the clean energy production including the hydrogen. He went on to say that Egypt is looking forward to officially launching the Sustainable Debt Alliance in Egypt by September 2023. Maait revealed that 20 countries are willing to join the debt-for-climate swap initiative in a time when 43% of African and low-income countries suffer from a debt crisis due to COVID-19, monetary tightening in developed markets, and higher costs of food and energy. |
