President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) Mahmoud Sakr unveiled details of manufacturing the first Egyptian-made electric vehicle (EV), which falls within the framework of the ASRT program on upgrading products and developing domestic manufacturing that was launched in February, upon directives of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli.
This came during a meeting with partners of the ASRT, MATGR and EgyptSat Auto companies. In statement to MENA, ASRT head said the first locally manufactured electric vehicle will be available at the Egyptian markets, bearing the brand name "Marka", with in nine months. EgyptSat Auto CEO Mohammed el Ghamry said: "A deal on designing and manufacturing the first Egyptian-made EV has been signed between EgyptSat Auto and the ASRT, in preparation for its debut in the markets during the first quarter of 2024." Coming in two different models the EV endurance rate amounts to 200 kilometers per single charge, Ghamry added. The percent of local manufacturing of the EV is envisaged to surpass 60 percent, with an average price between EGP 100,000-150,000. |
