Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Tarek el-Molla stressed the importance of localizing the nuts and bolts of industries complementary to mining activities, especially in light of tangible progress achieved in the gold mining sector.
During a meeting Wednesday with Chairman of German company CyPlus Stephan Wellers and his accompanying delegation the two sides discussed looming investment opportunities in Egypt in the various mining industry complementary sectors. The company's interest in establishing a factory for producing sodium cyanide compound; commonly used to leach gold from ore figured high during the meeting. In statements, the minister of petroleum and mineral resources said the ministry's strategy to upgrade the mining sector attaches great importance to incorporating green mining eco-friendly methods, involving the adoption of practices that minimize waste and reduce emissions, thus benefiting from the expertise of world leading firms in this regard. For his part, CyPlus chairman lauded the great progress achieved in the mining sector in Egypt that lured many companies to invest in this domain. They also agreed to designate a working group to conduct a feasibility study for the sodium cyanide factory and study the local market needs, along with exploring marketing and exporting strategies for the project. |
