Finance Minister Mohamed Maait said his ministry is keen that the national economy achieves a balanced performance in light of the current unprecedented global challenges prompted by the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and the lingering repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic.
Having a balanced economic performance will enable the national economy contain internal and external shocks and keep the production process going on and at the same time help the country expand and reinforce its social protection systems, Maait said during his meeting with New Zealand Ambassador in Cairo Amy Laurenson on Friday 15/09/2023. The ministry seeks to encourage the private sector to increase its contribution to the national development process, the minister said. Maait noted that Egypt will host the annual meetings of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in the Red Sea resort city of Sharm el Sheikh on September 25-26, a move that will pave the way for furthering its strong development partnership with the multilateral bank. Minister Maait reiterated interest in increasing the volume of trade and investment with New Zealand in light of Egypt's smart, advanced and green infrastructure, investment-magnet legislative environment and tax and customs privileges. Maait made clear that Egypt's accession to the BRICS will help the country open up new vistas for its future development plans, localize cutting-edge technology in economic sectors and increase local production rates. |
