Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Shaker, delivered a speech at the opening session of the "Digital Transformation in Distribution Networks" conference organized by Huawei China.
Shaker pointed to the efforts of the electricity and renewable energy sector in shifting from traditional grids to smart grids, which represents a qualitative leap in the future of electricity transmission and distribution at the present time. He added that the sector has worked to strengthen and develop electricity transmission networks, as many projects have been implemented in the field of overhead lines and transformer stations on high-voltage in the period from 2014 to date at the level of the Republic, where electrical lines have been added at a voltage of 500 kV with a total length of about 4613 km (by increasing the lengths of the lines to about one and a half times what the network was in 2014). Transformer stations have also been added to the 500 kV voltage with a total capacity of about 33,375 MVA through the construction of 21 transformer stations (an increase of 340% over the network in 2014). Moreover, the National Energy Control Center is currently being established in the new administrative capital of the unified national electricity network. In the field of distribution networks, work is currently underway to establish and develop (19) control centers in electricity distribution networks in several stages covering all parts of the Republic. In this context, since 2020, the integrated technological system for electricity services has been launched, which includes the unified platform for electricity services, through which citizens can apply for services at any time and from anywhere from a list of 26 services that have been activated so far. This includes (paying bills - requesting a legal meter - requesting a consumption statement certificate... and other services). The platform has expanded to meet the needs of more than 4 million users and more than 100,000 visitors per month, as well as more than 2.9 million Kodi meters have been installed. Shaker pointed out that there are more than 1,000 main and branch centers affiliated with distribution companies to charge prepaid meter cards and collect invoices. In addition to about 360,000 electronic charging points affiliated with electronic payment companies such as (Fawry Dahab Company and Delta Electronic Systems Company) in addition to mobile charging applications using the NFC feature such as Sahl App and MyFawry. Moreover, the implementation of the pilot project for the installation of smart meters in addition to data centers and their communication methods has been completed within the scope of some electricity distribution companies. The Follow-up and Digital Operation Center has also been established at the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy building in the New Administrative Capital. |
