Egypt is poised to begin the second stage of the Decent Life initiative, comprising a series of countryside-focused national infrastructure projects, in the coming fiscal year 2024/2025, Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said said.
The Decent Life initiative, introduced by President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in January 2019, aims to elevate the quality of life for the most vulnerable segments of Egyptian society, with a particular focus on enhancing daily services in rural areas. El-Said emphasized the importance of securing substantial resources to finance these projects during the next fiscal year, starting in July 2024. El-Said made these remarks during a meeting to evaluate the progress of the current fiscal year's plan (2023/24) and discuss key proposals for the next plan The second stage of the initiative is planned to cover 1,670 villages countrywide and provide services for some 20 million citizens, according to previous statements by Minister of Local Development Hisham Amna in September. The investments in the presidential programme are expected to reach more than EGP 1 trillion, Amna added. The first stage of the initiative – that serves 28 million citizens in 1,477 villages – is expected to be concluded by 31 December of this year, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said in August. Initially planned to be completed by 30 June 2022, the programme was delayed by a shortage of raw materials and equipment from abroad owing to current global economic circumstances. Regarding the investment plan for FY2024/25, she emphasized the need to prioritize investment in human capital and allocate public funds to the health and education sectors. |
