The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade indicated in a statement Monday that 14 logistic zones were being introduced in 10 governorates at a cost of LE33.54 billion creating 245,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The aim is encouraging disintermediation and reducing loss caused by much circulation of goods. The report highlighted that in 2023 a logistic zone entered service in each of Gharbia and Beheira at a cost of LE8 billion and LE2.2 billion, respectively. Five investors are funding and building others in Cairo, Giza, and Qalyoubiyah. They will also carry out management and operation. Further, the ministry has acquired funding worth €100 million from the French Agency for Development (AFD) to establish 14 central markets across various governorates. The first of which was inaugurated in Ismailiyah in 2023. As for subsidized staples, the ministry is establishing seven modern storage complexes to better monitor the movement of goods. Those will cost LE14 billion and span over 1.3 million square meters. Four – located in Suez, Fayoum, Luxor, and Sharqia - were offered in tenders, and lands were delivered to developers in the first three. |
