The cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) launched the first national dialogue session on the eight-direction document of Egypt's economic strategy for 2024-2030.

The session tackled the policies, implementation mechanisms, and potential funding sources required to achieve the strategy, read a cabinet statement .

The priorities of 2024 were also thoroughly examined. The session was attended by notable figures and organizations, including experts, professors, representatives from parliament, and delegates from the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Osama El-Gohary, assistant to Egypt's prime minister and chairman of the IDSC, highlighted the extensive efforts made in developing this strategy.

“Over six months, the IDSC collaborated with 400 local and international experts in 19 workshops, resulting in a comprehensive framework consisting of 873 recommendations,” El-Gohary said.

The Egyptian economy can achieve the strategy's goals, including an economic growth rate of 6-8 percent, said Heba Abdel-Moneim, head of the IDSC’s Technical Office Sector.

She pointed out that the economy achieved a growth rate of 6.6 percent during the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022, with an average annual growth rate of seven percent in preceding years.

The participants commended the launch of a national dialogue that involves citizens in policy formulation and execution planning, believing that this approach would accelerate the implementation process and increase the chances of success.

The strategy's objective of diversifying the focus on different sectors such as agriculture, industry, tourism, logistics services, communications, and construction, was praised.

“This diversified foundation provides the economy with the necessary flexibility to effectively tackle various global and local challenges,” participants noted.

They also emphasized the importance of supporting legislation aimed at enacting structural reforms and strengthening all productive sectors.

The session delved into the challenges faced by different sectors of the Egyptian economy, with a focus on addressing each challenge individually.

Earlier this month, the government unveiled a comprehensive economic strategy comprising eight key directions for 2024 through 2030.

Once the public discussion phase is completed, the document will receive official approval before being implemented.
