Chief of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Waleid Gamal El-Dein said that discussions are currently underway to establish a Turkish industrial zone within the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

This came during Gamal’s meeting with the Turkish Ambassador to Egypt Salih Mutlu Sen – that the economic zone includes numerous Turkish investments such as the “Hayat Egypt” factory specializing in healthcare products in the fully integrated Sokhna area.

There are also discussions regarding the presence of major Turkish textile and clothing companies in the promising West Qantara Industrial Zone, notably “KCG” and others.

In a statement on Tuesday, SCZONE said that Gamal El Dein discussed with the Turkish ambassador to Egypt mutual cooperation, especially in the economic field, which is witnessing an increasing momentum at present.

He also presented the competitive advantages offered by the zone to its investors, including its ownership of six maritime ports on the Red Sea and the Mediterranean, as well as four industrial zones comprising 21 different industrial sectors.

He emphasized the authority’s commitment to supporting its investors in all affiliated industrial zones and its commitment to implementing its strategic vision aimed at industrial localization in the targeted sectors.

On his part, the Turkish Ambassador expressed his admiration of the potentials of SCZONE and the existing cooperation with the Turkish business community, expressing his country’s pride in the role played by the Arish Port, affiliated with the zone, in delivering aid to Turkey during last year’s devastating earthquake.

He also affirmed Turkish companies’ openness to enhancing partnership with the Economic Zone, especially in ready-made garment industries and the textile sector, adding that Egypt has become one of the most important investment destinations for Turkey.

He emphasized the necessity of cooperation to launch a Ro-Ro line at one of the zone’s ports, which contributes to enhancing trade exchange between the two countries.

The meeting also discussed cooperation in renewable energy fields, whether green fuel or industries supporting it such as solar panels, as well as supplying ships with green fuel.

Moreover, the two sides also addressed a suggestion to establish a vocational training center in the West Qantara Industrial Zone to serve the ongoing projects that require highly trained labor on the latest technological systems in production.
