The Ministry of Electricity will announce the Egyptian company that will link Egyptian and Sudanese electricity networks within the next month and is in talks with Saudi officials about a similar project, according to the Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Energy, Hassan Younis.
Younis said the ministry had finished technical and financial analysis of different bids. Younis said that a project to link the Egyptian and Saudi Arabian electric grids awaits a review from both the Egyptian Electric Holding Company and its Saudi counterpart before the beginning of the bidding process. Testing procedures are set to begin in 2015. Younis said the agreement outlines coordination between the two companies. Each company bears responsibility for financing, possessing, operating and maintaining its own equipment inside its respective country. According to the Minister, the project is based on energy exchanges between Egypt and Saudi Arabia during peak times, which differ between the two states. He added that a meeting between Egyptian and Greek experts is scheduled in order to discuss the initial study, in preparation an extensive feasibility study. |
