Egypt’s Trade Deficit Widens 22% in August

Egypt’s trade deficit widened 22 percent in August from a year earlier to 18.2 billion Egyptian pounds ($3.05 billion), the official Middle East News Agency reported, citing the country’s statistics office. The North African nation’s imports increased by 16.2 percent to 31.5 billion pounds as the prices of goods such as iron, steel, wheat and corn rose, according to the Cairo-based news agency, known as Mena.
