The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was elected Vice-President of the Executive Board of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the next two years. The move, the Kingdom's second in a row and fourth in its history, took place during the closing session of the organization’s General Conference held in Paris early this week. Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muammar, Deputy Minister of Education of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, led his country's delegation to the UNESCO. Dr. Ziyad Al-Darees will serve as Saudi Arabia's permanent representative to the organization. UNESCO Member Parties welcomed the choice, considering it a recognition of the Kingdom's great role and high profile in global theater within the UNESCO in particular.
