Irrigation and Water Resources Minister Hisham Qanil arrived in Addis Ababa on 28/11/2011 to take part in the tripartite technical committee tasked with assessing expected effects of the construction of Ethiopia's Renaissance Dam on downstream states, Egypt and Sudan.
The technical committee includes the irrigation ministers of Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia. Qandil is to attend the closing meetings of the Egyptian-Ethiopian technical committee. The committee discussed boosting technical cooperation between the two sides.
He will also sign a plan of action to put into effect the memo of understanding that was agreed upon during Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi's visit to Egypt in September. Qandil is accompanied by a delegation of irrigation experts and representatives of the Foreign Ministry and other concerned quarters. The Egyptian delegation includes Assistant Foreign Minister for Nile Basin State Affairs Magdi Amer and General Supervisor of the International Cooperation Minister Marwan Badr.
