Head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi met on 10/1/2012 with former US President Jimmy Carter, the Chairman of Carter Center for Peace, to discuss domestic and international developments. Talks took up the transition to democracy in Egypt and rebuilding State institutions after the parliamentary elections are over. They also discussed the status of NGOs operating in Egypt.
During the meeting, Carter praised the Egyptian parliamentary elections that were conducted under full judicial supervision and followed up by several national and international civil organizations. He thanked Tantawi for having invited NGOs to watch the electoral process in all three rounds.
