Bilateral cooperation Between Egypt and Georgia

Minister of International Cooperation and Planning Fayza Abul-Naga discussed with Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze means to boost bilateral cooperation in various domains, including economic, scientific and technical fields. Following the meeting, the minister said that she discussed with the top Georgian diplomat the possibility of making use of Georgia’s geographic location and its infrastructure in the field of transport.

Cooperation aims to build a partnership that enables the Egyptian institutions of accessing Poti Port and the transition of Egyptian imports, especially the wheat coming from Kazakhstan. This will help cutting the cost of transport within the framework of a memorandum of understanding signed by the Alexandria and Poti ports in 2010.

She added that they also discussed means to boost and develop trade exchange between the two countries, which is still weak. At the end of the meeting, the two sides have agreed to the importance of resuming the activities of economic cooperation between the two countries through focusing on a limited number of promising fields. For his part, the Georgian minister expressed in his second visit to the Egypt since the January 25th Revolution his country’s appreciation of the revolution.

He also affirmed the support of his country to Egypt as a friendly country and a positive partner in the important transitional phase witnessed by Egypt. He noted that the meeting tackled economic cooperation through joint committees, which he has chaired and the last of which was the round of the joint Egyptian-Georgian Committee on economic, scientific and technical cooperation.
