Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr. Hassan Younis said some 10.000 megawatt will be added to the national grid within the framework of the current five-year plan 2007/2012, thus taking the total generation capacities up to reach 30.000 megawatt for current and future development purposes. The minister pointed out that seven generating electricity stations have been operated, Korimat 3, Nubaria 3, Seidi Kreer, Tebeen and Cairo West.
The Minister noted that the electricity sector is currently working to provide the necessary finance for the upcoming five-year plan 2012/2017 with investments reaching EGP 120 million. On the other hand, an official source at the electricity and energy sector said that power companies are making preparations for facing any extra loads expected in summer. The source added the companies will focus their efforts in the coming period to conduct periodic maintenance of the national grid to prevent the occurrence of any failures. |
