Manufacturing and Importing a Number of AC Railway Cars

Out of the government keenness on developing services for people in various sectors topped by railways which transfer daily 1.5 million passengers nationwide, a global auction was prepared for importing new cars with various degrees by the coming months.

Prime Minister, Dr. Kamal Al-Ganzoury, witnessed a contract signing ceremony on manufacturing and importing number of 212 passenger AC railway cars between the Transport Ministry and the Arab Organization for Industrialization, in attendance of the Minister of Transport, and Head of the AOI and Egyptian National Railways including 69 cars for 1st degree, 115 for 2nd degree, 23 buffet cars, and 5 for excellent services.

The contract comes within the Transport Ministry planning to develop and raise efficiency of the Egyptian railways including rehabilitation and maintenance of the railways and supporting the movable unit fleet, developing and raising efficiencies of barriers at Upper and Lower Egypt.

The Minister of Transport added that the plan includes development of railways where 10 stations are under development topped by Cairo and Sidi Gaber, to be followed by other 20 stations. He announced the development of signs system at Beni Sueif-Assuit and Banha-Alexandria railways amounting to EGP 3.6 billion through using electronic system instead of mechanical. The Minister stated that large number of the new cars will be allocated for Cairo-Aswan line to serve Upper Egypt governorates within services provided to Fayoum, Beni-Sueif, Menyia, Assuit, Sohag, Qena, Luxor, Aswan and New Valley.
