MOU to Fund Cairo-Banha Road Project

The Transport Ministry signed on 7/5/2012 with the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) a memo of understanding to finance the Cairo-Banha Freeway Project that will be built by international standards at an estimated initial cost of LE 2.6 billion.

Transport Minister Galal Moustafa Saeed and Qalyubia Governor Adel Zayed attended the signing ceremony. The projected road will ease the traffic congestion at Cairo-Alexandria agricultural highway that can no longer accommodate the growing flow of traffic that currently reaches up to 120,000 vehicles per day; Saeed said.

The new freeway will be 40 kilometer long and it will have five lanes on each direction. It will have two major crossroads of the Qalyub-Shebin El Qanater and the Toukh-Sehbin El Qanater highways.
