Prime Minister, Dr. Kamal Al-Ganzoury, held meeting with Head of the Leather Tanning Chambers and its members, in attendance of the Minister of Industry. The Minister confirmed that the meeting tackled problems of leather industry in Egypt, and Dr. Al-Ganzoury called the Minister to study demands of owners of the tanning shops and workers in such industry concerning the possibility of reducing price of the land meter in Al-Roubeky to help them transferring their industry therein amounting to EGP 680 instead of EGP 2700, while considering the state right. The government is committed to complete the infrastructure projects in Al-Roubeky, and provide all facilitations required that would help employees working in leather to transport therein. He added that the government will pay EGP 800 million on infrastructure, chemical and environmental treatment station.
The government gives importance to leather tanning industry which Egypt enjoys since thousands years, the Minister stated, stressing the government keenness on supporting the industry and solving their problems especially that the project is linking to raw leather export and import leather products not conforming to specifications. The Industry Ministry issued decree no. 304 of 2011 banning leather export abroad aiming to protect the local products and export it with high prices. The decree stated that leather products shall be in advanced stage and fully tanned. The Ministry also issued decree no. 660 to control leather import and the necessity of holding authorized certificate and scientific examinations in accordance to standard specifications, aiming to stop smuggling of these products to the Egyptian market, and controlling supervision process on the local market. Head of the Chamber thanked Dr. Al-Ganzoury and the government for their great interest paid to leather industry in Egypt, confirming that the government has issued decrees banning raw leather export, and bad leather import aiming to protect leather industry in Egypt. |
