Government wheat purchases from farmers since opening the door for such purchases on April 20, 2012 reached a total of 2.8 million tons marking 200,000 tons additional quantities above their level during the same period of 2011. This was reported in the media quoting Egypt's Minister of Supply and Home Trade, Dr. Gouda Abdel Khalek, indicating that delivery prices start with L.E. 375 per Ardab and increases for cleaner shipments. He noted that those prices are 19 % to 22 % higher than prices on the world markets and expected total deliveries during the year 2012 to exceed 3 million tons.
