As of mid-July this year 356,988 feddans will be allocated for investors in Sinai and Toshka and Sharq al-Owainat in the New Valley governorate for the purpose of possession or usufruct. In statements on 10/6/2012, Agriculture and Land Reclamation Minister Mohamed Reda Ismail said that these tracts of land include 145,788 feddans in Sinai, 157,000 feddans in Toshka and 54,000 feddans in Sharq el-Owainat.
Meanwhile, the board of the General Authority for Rehabilitation and Agricultural Development (GARPAD) agreed to allocate 10,000 feddans in Minya desert to a company for the development of animal and agricultural resources, said Ismail. The land will be offered through the usufruct system for 49 years with a price to be set by the Supreme Committee for Valuing State Lands, the minister said. Another 2,500 feddans will also be distributed on young graduates in line with Law 89 of 1998, he said.
