$ 3 Billion for Electricity Linkage between Egypt, Saudi Arabia

Sources at the electricity sector said that agreements for electricity linkage between Egypt and Saudi Arabia are expected to be signed within a month after the Saudi Cabinet agreed on 9/4/2013 on completing the project for its important for both countries.

Within this context, Minister of Electricity and Energy Ahmed Emam held an expanded meeting to discuss the following executive steps after receiving the Saudi cabinet's approval.

The project provides for the exchange of 3000 megawatt of power between the two countries' networks, besides fostering the comprehensive electricity linkage for the Arab countries, given that the Egyptian and Saudi electricity networks constitute 85 per cent of the Arab electricity capabilities.

Emam said the estimated cost of the Egyptian Saudi electricity linkage hits some $ 3 billion, where each side will pay the cost of implementing the project on its land.
