Prime Minister Hisham Qandil attended on 28/4/2013 the signing ceremony of an agreement between Egypt and Spain to build three tunnels in Suez Canal area. The deal, signed by Egypt's National Authority for Tunnels and a Spanish company, falls within the framework of implementing the Suez Canal Corridor Development project.
The signing ceremony was attended by Housing Minister Tareq Wafiq, Transport Minister Hatem Abdel-Latif and Spanish Ambassador in Cairo Fidel Sendagorta and the authority's official Abdel-Moneim Amin and the Spanish company's international development managing director. In statements, the transport minister said that the Spanish government offered € 900,000 to finance the technical studies for the three tunnels, including a railway one. He further noted that 171 level crossings have been developed by two companies, one of them is Spanish.
