Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry called on American companies to consider Dubai as a base for expansion, showcasing the benefits of investing in the emirate.
The invitation was made during a high profile Trade Mission Series State of Illinois visit, headed by The Honourable Danny K. Davis, U.S. Congressman, 7th District of Illinois, which was received by H.E. Hisham Al Shirawi, 2nd Vice Chairman, Dubai Chamber. H.E. Al Shirawi said that Dubai Chamber had been working to enhance relationships between Emirati and American business communities to bring them closer together to enhance two-way trade and investment opportunities. “Dubai and the US have a strong trade partnership that has increased significantly over the past decade,” H.E. Al Shirawi said. “In that time, Dubai’s total non-oil trade with the US has increased 500%, from AED 11.9 billion in 2002 to AED 76.5 billion in 2012, making it Dubai’s 4th largest trade partner.” His Excellency said the current relationship between Dubai and the US was good but that more could be done to develop further growth. At present Dubai Chamber has over 1,230 American companies among its members. It also has the American Business Council that works to represent, support and protect the needs of these companies. H.E. Al Shirawi said: “I urge more American companies to come to Dubai as Dubai is an ideal base for expansion into this region. It has the infrastructure, a thriving business environment, a strategic location and the right investment opportunities.” Congressman Davis praised the development of the UAE and its achievements saying that the diversification of the economy and the independence from oil reliance were the main elements of its strength, which reflects the wise vision of its leaders. He said also echoed calls for enhanced business relations between Dubai and US business communities, highlighting the role of chambers of commerce towards this goal in the region. Aida Araissi, President and Managing Director, Bilateral US-Arab Chamber of Commerce, said that its organisation, founded in 1997, works to promote bilateral trade, investment and education between the US and the Arab world. She highlighted the positive reputation that Dubai Chamber has as one of the most active in the region. Ms. Araissi said that she first led a US delegation visit to Dubai in 2002 and has since taken a total of 19 delegations. Members of the delegation enquired about how to start up a business in Dubai and other related questions regarding the food, trade, education, healthcare and HR development sectors. The visit was part of the Trade Mission Series State of Illinois which travelled to Bahrain, the UAE and Qatar between August 30 and September 6. |
