Egypt and Saudi Arabia will sign power linkage agreements in December in Cairo with the attendance of Saudi Electricity Minister Abdallah Al Haseen.
The linkage will enable Egypt and Saudi Arabia to exchange 3,000 megawatts of electricity with each other as needed during their varying hours of peak demand: at noon in Saudi Arabia and in the evening in Egypt, said Electricity Minister Ahmed Emam following his meeting with a mission of the Saudi Fund for Development who voiced readiness to provide requirements and finance needed for the new power generation stations. The Egyptian-Saudi linkage is the most important step for establishing the unified Arab grid, he added. |
