Military Spokesman Brigadier Mohamed Samir said on 21/08/2014 that 13.6 million cubic meters were dug in the newly-launched Suez Canal project.
In a statement, Samir noted that some 43 companies are now working at the project site. There are five other companies still in need of equipment to start working there, the statement concluded. Samir noted that 43 companies have started working on a new $4 billion project to expand the Suez Canal by adding a second channel. The project, announced earlier in August, aims to create new 72 kilometre-long waterway alongside the Suez Canal. 48 companies have been assigned to work on implementing the project; five companies are waiting to start work until necessary equipment arrives, according to Samir. On the other hand, Ismailia Governor Ahmed Al Qassas said upon directives of president Sisi on streamlining the visits to the site of the Suez Canal project, it was decided to confine visit to Thursdays only. |
