Supply and Internal Trade Minister Khalid Hanafy and Investment Minister Ashraf Salman had a number of meetings with major US companies and institutions during their visit to New York.
The ministers were accompanying President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, presidential spokesman said on 30/9/2014. The meetings came upon assignment from the President who recently took part in the UN General Assembly meetings in New York, presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef added. The meetings were fruitful, the presidential spokesman said, adding that the chairman of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) agreed to pay a visit to Egypt in mid October for discussions on establishing the first commodities exchange in the Middle East. The chief executive of Cargill expressed desire to visit Egypt to forge a strategic partnership and establish direct investments to turn Egypt into an international hub for the trade of grains, the spokesman pointed out. Youssef said that the chairman of Sukar also voiced hope to participate in projects to establish silos for storing grains in Egypt. Also, a delegation from the Sky Power will visit Cairo to discuss the possibility of carrying out projects in the field of using solar energy in generating electricity, Youssef added. He noted that an agreement was reached with a company producing Hepatitis C drug to deliver one million doses to Egypt at an affordable price. The two ministers also met with a number of investors to discuss the possibility of investing in the proposed projects in Egypt, the spokesman concluded. |
