Japan's Consul-General in the UAE, Hishashi Michigami, visited Jebel Ali Free Zone, Jafza, on Thursday to discuss ways to further strengthen bilateral trade relations between Jafza and Japan, and explore new investment opportunities for Japanese companies there.

Michigami was received by Ibrahim Mohamed Al Janahi, Deputy CEO of Jafza and Chief Commercial Officer of Economic Zones World, EZW, the parent company of Jafza.

Al Janahi welcomed the Consul-General and discussed the strong and well-established Jafza-Japan relations, stressing the importance of building on the existing relations between the two sides.

The Deputy CEO of Jafza briefed Michigami on Jafza’s key value propositions, such as its world-class economic infrastructure, the wide range of facilities suitable for any size and types of businesses, excellent services, and most efficient multi-modal connectivity that has made Jafza the trade and logistics hub for the wider Middle East region comprising West Asia, the CIS, Africa and the Indian subcontinent.

Commenting on the strong Jafza-Japan trade relations and the Free Zone’s continued efforts to strengthen the relationship, Al Janahi said,"Japan is one of Jafza's most important trade partners. We continue to make efforts to further enhance our relations.

We recently conducted a road-show in Japan that included several business seminars and many one-to-one meetings with leading Japanese companies interested in entering the rapidly growing Middle East markets using Jafza facilities." Al Janahi added that Japanese companies have played, and continue to play, a very important role in the economic development of the UAE in general and Dubai in particular.

"Japanese IT and electronic majors can play an important role in the "Smart City" initiative launched by Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, recently," he said.

He also expressed his deep appreciation for the Japanese Consul-General's keen interest in further strengthening Jafza-Japan trade relations.

Jafza currently hosts 145 Japanese companies, which includes companies like Mitsubishi, Nissan, Panasonic, Toshiba, Honda, Sony, Hitachi, Denso and Isuzu among others. Jafza’s total trade volume with Japan stands at around US$2.7 billion, making Japan Jafza’s sixth largest partner by trade and 11th largest by number of companies.
