Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi is to fly on Wednesday to Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum in the Davos.
His participation as president of Egypt in the 45th annual event ends a decade of Cairo sending prime ministers, ministers or bank governors as representatives. The Geneva-based think-tank said the annual get-together would bring together over 2,500 business and world leaders for strategic dialogues to map the current period of political, economic social and technological change under the theme of "The New Global Context.' French President François Hollande, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko are due to attend the January 21-24 meeting. King Abdullah of Jordan, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi, Tunisian President Béji Caïd Essebsi and Turkey's PM Ahmet Davutoglu are also expected to attend. Participating in the meeting will be the heads of the world's largest businesses, central bankers, labour unions as well as civil society and religious leaders. El-Sisi, the Jordanian king and other Arab leaders will discuss resolutions to geopolitical crises and means to reach sustainable peace against the backdrop of instability in Ukraine, the Middle East, and other parts of the world, the WEF said. The Egyptian leader will deliver a speech on Thursday and later hold sideline talks with a number of world leaders, including Germany's Angela Merkel and Simonetta Sommaruga, President of the Swiss Confederation, a presidential statement said. Egypt is planning to convene a conference of international investors in Sharm El-sheik to lure substantial foreign monies to the country. |
