President Abdel Fattah El Sisi will arrive in Athens on a three-day visit for talks with Greek officials.
The talks will tackle ways to promote bilateral relations in all political, economic and security fields, along with issues of mutual concern including the fight against terrorism and the developments in the Middle East. Upon arrival on Tuesday, Sisi will lay a wreath of flowers on the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier in Athens. He will then head for the presidential palace where he will be officially welcomed. Sisi will have talks with Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos on different cooperation domains and ways of enhancing joint coordination over regional and international issues. The President will then meet Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on boosting bilateral relations in all spheres and issues of mutual concern. Following the meeting, they will hold a joint press conference. In the evening, Sisi will attend a meeting of Egyptian and Greek businessmen to discuss available investment opportunities in the Egyptian markets and ways to lure joint investments, particularly in the energy field. On Wednesday, a tripartite summit will be held among Sisi, Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades. The meeting is a part of the three countries' keenness on holding the summit regularly in order to promote their strategic and historic relations and building on the positive outcome of the first summit which was held in Cairo in November 2014, and the second one which was hosted by Cyprus in April. Sisi will meet the Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos to discuss means of promoting military and security cooperation and address the current regional challenges. On the third day, the President will meet the speaker of the Greek parliament Nikos Voutsis to assert that the importance of the parliamentary aspect of the relations, especially following the election of members of a new parliament in Egypt. |
