Dubai Chamber Seeks Bigger Role for its International Offices

During an annual meeting with representatives of its International Offices, the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry discussed ways to develop and enhance the performance of these offices as laid down in their objectives of promoting and serving the business environment of Dubai.

The week-long annual meeting included training seminars and workshops for representatives of the four Dubai Chamber International Offices in the Azeri capital of Baku, the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, Erbil in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, and the Ghanaian capital Accra in the presence of Omar Khan, Director, International Offices, Dubai Chamber.

The meeting reviewed the progress of these offices, the challenges they faced, and exchanged ideas on the best ways to enhance their performance while enabling them to promote Dubai and its lucrative business environment and attracting more overseas companies to invest in the emirate, as well as to promote the competitiveness of Dubai businesses in the promising markets of the countries and the surrounding regions where the offices are located.

H.E. Hamad Buamim, President and CEO, Dubai Chamber, during his meeting with the representatives of the International Offices, lauded their important role in supporting the Chamber’s objective of exploring new investment opportunities for Dubai companies looking to expand in emerging markets of the world while establishing new contacts and exploring areas of synergy between Dubai businesses and their counterparts in CIS, Africa and the region.

H.E. Buamim said that this meeting provided an ideal platform to review the performance of the international offices and to find ways for their constant improvement and development in serving companies operating in Dubai, while supporting overseas investors wanting to enter the emirate’s market, as well as to discuss the strategy and plans for the year 2016.

He added that the Chamber’s International Offices are part of the Chamber’s strategy in stimulating the economic growth of the emirate by attracting global investors while promoting Dubai and its competitive business environment in the overseas business arena.

The President and CEO of Dubai Chamber informed that the leading business organisation will open two new offices in Mozambique and Kenya during the first quarter of next year in addition to the four operating in Azerbaijan, Ethiopia, Iraqi Kurdistan and Ghana as work is also on to open two more offices in Brazil and China in the near future.

On the side lines of the annual meeting, Dubai Chamber honoured the Azerbaijan office with the Distinguished International Office of the Year 2015 award for its outstanding performance in servicing UAE companies wanting to enter the CIS market, besides promoting Dubai amongst Azerbaijani businesses.

In 2012, Dubai Chamber initiated its strategy of opening international offices in emerging markets to help local business’s easy, fast and safe access to these markets while serving as a gateway to UAE investments in target markets. As well as to promote the emirates’ lucrative investment environment to foreign investors, the strategy also focuses on opening up a gate of opportunities for overseas investors to set up base in Dubai and to expand in the regional markets.
