Prime Minister Sherif Ismail praised achievements made in various national projects, especially in the electricity sector.
Egypt will have a sufficiency of natural gas after the natural gas field, which has been recently discovered in the Mediterranean, comes into service in mid-2017, he said in statements. The premier noted that 600,000 housing units will be finalized next year, pointing to the government's efforts to develop 5,000 kilometers of roads as part of the national roads project. He stressed that the government adopts the transparency principle with citizens when it comes to economic issues, giving an example of low growth rates and the increasing public debt in Egypt. He further referred to the launch of the first phase of a national project to reclaim 1.5 million feddans today with the aim of achieving development and build new urban communities. Speaking about his recent meeting with a raft of experts, Ismail said the gathering came as part of the government's endeavors to take views of economists to overcome the current economic crisis. The government is currently establishing 3,006 projects, he said, noting that 728 ventures have been already finalized. Ismail further stressed the government’s keenness on providing basic commodities for citizens at affordable prices. The Central Bank of Egypt managed to save up 60 percent of the World Bank's six-billion-dollar loan, he concluded. |
