The cotton industry, known for its high quality and durability, employs around 1.2 million people, said Trade and Industry Minister Tarek Qabil.
The spinning and weaving industry is facing several challenges, added the minister during the national conference on supporting cotton cultivation and enhancing the spinning and weaving industry. The conference is being held under the auspices of Prime Minister Sherif Ismail. After two years, the population may reach 102 million, he said, adding that this requires having a strong spinning and weaving industry. Egypt imports about 80% of cotton seeds, he said, although it has the ability to depend on the local production. He, meanwhile, supported the expansion of long-staple cotton, according to the conditions of the Agriculture Ministry. |
