Minister of Electricity Dr. Mohamed Shaker said the relationship between Egypt and Germany in the field of electricity and renewable energy is not only restricted to cooperation, but has evolved into effective partnership.
The German Siemens company signed a deal, worth eight billion dollars, with the Egyptian government to establish three high-efficiency power plants at a capacity of 16.4 gigawatts. On behalf of Shaker, Ministry undersecretary Dr. Khaled al Destawy delivered a speech during the activities of the eighth Egyptian-German day on renewable resources. The event organized in cooperation with German ministry of economy and energy, was attended by German Ambassador to Egypt Julius Georg Luy, head of German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce Dr. Rainer Herret and a delegation from five German companies working in the field of wind energy. The minister said the bilateral cooperation includes generating 2 gigabytes from wind energy by establishing ten wind farms by 2020. The conference will tackle a number of issues, including systems and solutions of renewable energy to supply electricity through the generation of wind energy, which is an appropriate chance to support implementing developmental projects in Egypt. |
