 President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met with Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde.
President Sisi expressed appreciation for the fruitful cooperation between the Egyptian government and the International Monetary Fund said Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef. The president also confirmed Egypt's keenness on maintaining cooperation with the IMF especially in the technical support domain, added the spokesman. The president expressed hope that the IMF would support Egypt in the fields of sustainable development and expanding social protection programs for the low-income segments and the most-in-need people of Egypt, said the spokesman. The president underlined that the government will continue implementing the economic reform program. Meanwhile, he lauded the Egyptian people for their patience and understanding that the recent economic decisions, despite their difficulty, were necessary for handling the chronic problems of the Egyptian economy, according to the spokesman. The president further asserted that the government is working to create an atmosphere which is attractive to foreign investments with a view to increasing the growth rates and minimizing unemployment along with reducing the public debt, added the spokesman. For her part, the IMF chief lauded the recent brave economic decisions that were adopted by the Egyptian government to handle structural imbalances in the national economy, the spokesman pointed out . She also hailed the economic reform measures that were adopted by the government confirming meanwhile the IMF's keenness on maintaining cooperation with Egypt and extending all required support for rendering the economic reform program a success, added the spokesman. |
