 Minister of Trade and Industry Tareq Qabil said that Egypt is keen on boosting cooperation with the African Union (AU) with the aim of maintaining peace and security in all member states of the African Union (AU).
The minister's statements were made following his meeting with a visiting delegation of the African Union led by AU High Representative for the Peace Fund Donald Kaberuka. The meeting took up a number of important issues put on the agenda of the African Union. Qabil said that the government is committed to supporting the African Union's efforts to achieve peace and eradicate terrorism in all African states. He said that the AU Peace Fund is playing a vital role in backing efforts exerted to achieve peace in the African continent, noting that the Egyptian government is fully committed to supporting the Fund's activities. The minister also reiterated that cooperation with Africa tops the priorities of the Egyptian government which has recently beefed up its relations with most of the AU member-states. The African envoy, for his part, reviewed the outcome of Kigali Summit held in July which agreed on the necessity of providing new sources for financing the African Union budget. |
