Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh said spoke of the need to update economic legislation through finding a clear vision consistent with the other valid laws to arrive at a strong national economy.

He spoke at a meeting with Jordan Chamber of Industry President, Adnan Abul Ragheb, and Amman Chamber of Industry President, Senator Zeyad El-Homsi, who raised a series of key demands, particularly the need to simultaneously debate the chambers of industry and commerce legislation in order to rid the economic, investment and industrial sectors of the defects they suffer from to achieve a vibrant economy.

Tarawneh said that the House backs "fair" demands, especially those related to enhancing the economic situation, noting that proposals and demands to spur the economy will be taken into consideration.

Commenting on the chambers of commerce draft law now on the legislature's agenda, Tarawneh said that the House is open to all observations and proposals and will tackle them "in a manner to enrich the discussion by the concerned committees before debating and passing the bill".

He also pointed out that the House would back the chambers of industry legislation if it sees that it meets the national interest, noting that the legislature had repeatedly stated the importance of cementing the partnership with the private and industrial sectors.

The Lower House chief said that achieving a strong economy would help the government to address major problems, notably poverty and unemployment.
