 Egypt has made much headway in pursuing sustainable development.
Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil inaugurated the Sustainable Industrial Areas conference "SIA 2018," held for the first time in Cairo by the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and East Port Said Development company.
“Establishing sustainable industrial areas is a key step towards achieving equilibrium between the economic, social and environmental aspects in any project,” Kabil said, noting that industrial developers will have ample opportunity in the near future to create more of these zones. He added that inclusive, sustainable industrial development is the main source of increasing income, improving living standards and promoting eco-friendly industrialization, according to the UN sustainable development agenda 2030. “Egypt has made much headway in pursuing sustainable development; adopting a national strategy for sustainable industrial development till 2020,” Kabil emphasized. In this respect, he pointed out that the ministry has taken a raft of measures; most importantly issuing a new Industrial Licensing Law that streamlines the procedures for new projects and reduces the waiting time from 634 to just 7 days. |
