 Trade between the two countries rose to about €1.6 billion in 2017, up by 11% from 2016.
Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil said that Egyptian exports increased by 28% in 2017 to reach €320 million, compared to €250 million in 2016, according to the latest report by the Egyptian commercial office in Brussels. The report pointed out that trade between the two countries grew, accordingly, to about €1.6 billion in 2017, up by 11% from €1.4 billion a year earlier. Head of the Egyptian Commercial Service ECS Ahmed Antar noted that main Egyptian exports to Belgium include: plastics, cables, electric appliances, fruits and vegetables, ready-made clothes and chemicals; which all make up over 80% of the country’s total exports to the Belgian market. Among the export items that witnessed a boost in 2017 are: plastics (50%), vegetables (3.2%), machinery and steel wire (22%), textiles (12%), metals (112%), and construction materials and ceramics (45%); the report stated. |
