Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury said the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development ( AFESD) agreed to put forward a three-year program to finance priority projects for the Jordanian government in a number of vital sectors.
At a meeting with Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director General of the AFESD Abdlatif Yousef Al-Hamad on the sidelines of the 47th meeting of the Board of Governors of the fund held at the Dead Sea on Tuesday, he said that the fund intends to increase its grants to Jordan and allocate a $500,000 -grant for the Jordanian government to finance the second phase of agricultural census. The minister highlighted the need for the Arab fund to find new financing tools to help Jordan address challenges and press ahead with the reform program carried out by the government. Al-Hamad said the fund gives priority to Jordan and its development needs especially at this stage as the Kingdom is facing many challenges. The AFESD is a major partner in supporting Jordan's development efforts, and it has financed economic and social projects since 1975 until 2017 valued at $1.914 billion. The value of grants in the same period also stood at $35 million. Fakhoury headed Jordan's delegation to the 47th meeting of the AFESD which was held at the Dead Sea yesterday to discuss a host of issues pertaining to the fund's activities. |
