The joint Egyptian-Russian economic committee will be held in Moscow in the second half of May, where a number of cooperation agreements will be signed.
Minister of Trade and Industry Tarek Kabil held a meeting with a high level Russian delegation led by Yevgeny Kuivashev, governor of the Russian Sverdlovsk region, which is currently visiting Egypt to discuss Russia's candidacy to host World Expo 2025 that in the Russian town, Ekaterinburg. "Egypt and Russia enjoy historical relations," Kabil said stressing Egypt's full support to Russia in this respect. Kabil furthermore noted that meetings of the joint Egyptian-Russian economic committee will be held in Moscow in the second half of May, during which a number of agreements and protocols will be signed to boost joint cooperation, mainly in the fields of industry, agriculture and customs. The establishment of the Russian industrial zone in Egypt will be on top of the committee's agenda, the minister added. The meeting was attended by George Kalamanov, deputy minister of industry and trade of the Russian Federation, and Sergei V. Kirpichenkov, the Russian ambassador in Egypt. Official data show that Egypt-Russia trade has grown significantly over the past years, hitting $1.334 billion in the first quarter of 2018, up by 55% from $862 million in 2017. Top Egyptian exports to the Russian market include: potatoes, onions, garlic, grapes, fresh and frozen strawberries, home appliances, pharmaceuticals and linens. |
