Abu Dhabi's non-oil foreign merchandise trade during Q1 2018 stood at AED38 billion, according to figures released by the Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi recently that showed imports rationalised to AED26.3 billion from January through March.
The statistics cover the value of non-oil foreign merchandise trade which entered or exited the territory of Abu Dhabi through the emirate's air, sea and land points of entry, and do not cover non-oil exports and imports through ports of other Emirates in the UAE. The total non-oil foreign merchandise trade grew 2.5 percent during March as compared to the same period in 2017 as a direct result of a 3.8 percent rise in the value of imports, a 1.5 percent increase in non-oil exports, while re-exports plunged by 2.1 percent. According to the figures, the value of exports increased to AED6.00 billion, while imports stood at AED26.34 billion and re-exports at AED5.58 billion. Industrial accessories got the lion's share of Abu Dhabi non-oil exports, amounting to around AED5.4 billion, accounting for 90 percent of the total non-oil exports from January through March 2018, with F&B exports reaching AED 262 million. In terms of re-exports, transport equipment and accessories accounted for 44.8 percent of total re-exports, or AED2.5 billion, during the same period. Non-oil merchandise worth AED10.4 billion, including industrial accessories, was imported, comprising 39.5 percent of the emirate's total imports during Q1, with transport equipment and accessories imports nearing AED8 billion. |
