Caretaker Minister of Economy and Trade, Raed Khoury, took part in the eighth session of the Arab-China Cooperation Forum's ministerial meeting in Beijing.
In his delivered word, the Minister thanked the People's Republic of China, its President Xi Jinping, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, for jointly contributing to the success of the forum. "I would like to highlight the importance of the old and renewed Lebanese-Chinese and Lebanese-Arab relations, which have always been characterized by support and cooperation. China, just like our Arab brothers, has always stood alongside Lebanon in international and regional forums," Khoury said. In his short intervention, the Minister also delivered a briefing on the most important developments currently taking place in Lebanon at the political, economic, developmental, and international levels. "Lebanon is keen on preserving its unity, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. It also cleaves to its right to respond to attacks against its autonomy and emphasizes the importance of supporting Lebanon and its army facing terrorism," Khoury said. "We also stress the importance of supporting and developing Lebanese constitutional institutions and adhere to the provisions of the constitution in terms of rejecting resettlement and opt for the right of Palestinians to return to their homeland. Lebanon also seeks securing a safe return of Syrian refugees to their country as soon as possible. All of this entails the support of the international community, especially to help alleviate the negative repercussions of the refugee crisis on Lebanon's security, economy, and social stability," Khoury maintained. Amidst a flurry of efforts to form a new cabinet, the Minister told conferees that the most important priority of the future government was to address the simmering economic situation in Lebanon by means of implementing the agreements of Paris Conference in Support of Lebanon (Cedre), the development of a national economic strategy to determine Lebanon's economic destination for the next five years, and strengthening Lebanon's geographic location as a link between Asia, Europe and Africa. He also mentioned plans to issue many laws that stimulate investments and improve the business environment in Lebanon. "We count on China and its advanced role in research and development; we also look forward to a strong joint cooperation in the transfer of Chinese knowledge and technological developments to our developing countries," Khoury concluded. |
