The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and France hit 1.4 billion dollars during the first eight months of 2018, including 460-million-dollar exports and 999-million-dollar imports, Trade and Industry Minister Amr Nassar said 13/10/2018.
This came at a meeting that Nassar held with French Ambassador in Cairo Stéphane Romatet to discuss future economic relations between both countries and current French investments in Egypt. French investments in Egypt are estimated at 4.5 billion euros that cover the fields of agricultural industries, Information Technology, construction, new and renewable energy, transportation, banks, aviation, water desalination, infrastructure and tourism, Nassar said. The meeting touched on preparations for the expected visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Egypt at the beginning of 2019, during which the Egypt-France Business Council will be held, Nassar said in a statement released by the ministry. Nassar confirmed the government's keenness on luring further French investments, highlighting the importance of benefiting from the close relation binding the private sectors in both countries. For his part, the French ambassador said that the positive economic reforms that Egypt has implemented over the past two years contributed to enabling the Egyptian market to restore its major role as one of the major markets in the Middle East and Africa. A delegation of major French pharmaceutical companies will visit Egypt in the coming month to probe the available investment opportunities here. |
